Why mezzanine floor surfaces fail so quickly

Most mezzanine floor coverings are timber, concrete, or thin steel. They’re designed to give you a quickly usable surface, but not to survive years of dropped equipment, wheeled cage and pallet movement, and constant foot traffic. Left uncovered, they chip, crumble, delaminate and wear through, creating weak spots. Before long, the mezzanine floor becomes a safety concern as well as an eyesore, and repairs are costly and repetitive.

Ecotile is a mezzanine floor covering that installs directly on top of the existing surface. Whether you’re protecting a new mezzanine, or covering a damaged one to make it safe again, Ecotile lasts for 20+years.

What happens if you don’t protect your mezzanine floor:

  • Chipboard breaks down, crumbles and creates weak spots
  • Repairs cause a lot of downtime
  • Painted surfaces wearing down within months
  • Bare surfaces transmit noise through the floor below
  • Repairs are costly and require downtime

Here’s how Ecotile solves those problems:

Install quickly without downtime

Have a busy mezzanine and can't afford to shut down for floor repair? Simply install Ecotile directly over the existing floor. There's no need to clear the entire area or wait for it to dry or cure before you can use it.

Create safety zones

Mix colours to highlight pick zones, walkways, or hazard areas like pallet gates or around mezzanine stairs. The colour of Ecotile stays vibrant for a lifetime (20+ years), so your safety markings will never fade or peel away.

A safer mezzanine floor

Ecotile makes facilities safer, more comfortable and easier to work in. With an R10 slip rating and Bfl-s1 fire rating, it’s ideal for almost any mezzanine. Use it to cover cracks, damaged surfaces and minor trip hazards, while adding safety signage to make potential hazards easier to spot.

Frequently asked questions

Some of the most common questions we get from engineers, facility managers, and health & safety teams.

Can I relay the tiles if my mezzanine layout changes?

->

Yes. Because interlocking tiles are loose-laid, they can be lifted and moved in a new configuration without the downtime or waste of removing an adhered or poured floor finish.

Do I need an ESD floor on my mezzanine?

->

If the mezzanine handles electronics, static-sensitive components, or stock where static discharge is a risk, you’ll probably need to install an ESD floor. You may also need an ESD floor if you are using AGV robots. Ecotile’s ESD tiles offer all the same benefits as our standard ones, but also control static.

What's the difference between mezzanine flooring and mezzanine floor covering?

->

Mezzanine flooring usually refers to the structure itself (steel, timber, or composite panel). On the other hand, Mezzanine floor covering is the surface laid on top of that structure to protect it from damage, add safety zoning, or control static. Ecotile supplies the covering, not the structure.

Is this product suitable for fire-protected structures?

->

Yes, Ecotile is a flame retardant product that does not support combustion and achieves Class 1 spread of flame when tested to BS EN 13501-1 – Bfl-S1.
